IN THE FALL OF 2011 I GET AN EMAIL FROM A FRIEND SHOWING THIS TD-18 FOR SALE IN BLAINE LAKE SASKATCHEWAN. OF COURSE I JUST HAD TO BUY IT BUT IT WOULD BE 6 MONTHS BEFORE HE ARRIVES IN THE "KINGDOM".
"BLAINE" IS A DIFFERENT CAT BECAUSE HE IS STARTED USING A PTO SHAFT FROM THE TRACTOR. THE GAS SIDE OF THE ENGINE FOR STARTING HIM QUIT A LONG TIME A GO SO THE PTO METHOD WORKS JUST AS WELL.
"BLAINE" AND THE "OTHER BLAINE" ARRIVE IN THE "KINGDOM" AUG 22 2012.
I USED THE D6 9U KNOWN AS "THE HOOD" TO DRAG THE "BLAINES" OFF THE TRAILER.
A COUPLE OF HOURS WITH THE TORCH AND "BLAINE" BECAME VERY LIGHTER. THE LIGHTER HE IS THE BETTER WINTER FREIGHTING CAT HE WILL BE.
WE HAD A LITTLE FUN DAY IN THE "KINGDOM" AT THE END OF AUGUST. OF COURSE THE LITTLE TD-6 KNOWN AS THE "CURSE OF REVERSE" JUST COULD NOT GIVE "BLAINE" A PULL START, LOL.
JANUARY 19 2013 "BLAINE" GETS DRAGGED UP TO THE SHOP BY THE TD-18 KNOWN AS "DUALLY". IT IS ONLY -35C WITH A WIND CHILL OF -47C. TRYING TO GET 26,000LBS TO MOVE WAS FUN, LOL.
"BLAINE" INSIDE MY LITTLE SHOP WITH THE TRANSMISSION PARTS THAT HE WILL NEED.
JANUARY 20 2013, "BLAINE" IS GETTING STRIPPED DOWN.
I DRAGGED HIM OUTSIDE WITH HIS STUMP PAN IN TOW. I POPPED THE MOTOR OUT AND BACK IN THE SHOP HE WENT.
YOU WILL NEED THESE LONG CUSTOM MADE LONG BOLTS TO GET THE BOTTOM TRANSMISSION SHAFT BEARING HOLDER OFF THE FRONT COVER. ONCE THE BEARING HOLDER IS REMOVED EVERYTHING ELSE COMES APART.
THE REVERSE GEAR WENT AND TOOK A TOOTH OFF ONE OF THE GEARS ON THE BOTTOM SHAFT. THAT IS WHY I POPPED THE MOTOR TO WORK ON THE TRANSMISSION MORE EASILY.
THE REVERSE GEAR MISSING HALF THE TEETH.
FINISHED UP AT 10 PM WITH EVERYTHING READY TO GO BACK TOGETHER.
JANUARY 21 2013
HAD A REALLY GOOD DAY IN THE SHOP WORKING ON "BLAINE" WITHTHE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE OF -32C. THINGS WENT ALONG VERY SLOW BUT STEADY WITH A LOT OF IMPROVMENTS WERE MADE TO MAKE THIS AN EXCELLENT WINTER FREIGHTING CAT. I HAD IN STOCK A NEW TRANSMISSION IMPUT SEAL BUT I CHOSE A COMMON SEAL WITH MORE LIP TO RUN ON THE YOKE WHICH SHOULD HELP IT FROM LEAKING. THE OLD SEAL DID NOT HAVE MUCH LIP RUNNING ON THE YOKE SO THAT IS WHY IT MAYBE LEAKED.
SINCE "BLAINE" WAS USED AS A DOZER, THE TUB HAS A FEW CRACKS IN IT WHICH IS NORMAL FOR A MACHINE THAT IS 70 YEARS OLD. I SPRAY PAINTED THE CRACK AREAS AND WILL WELD THESE UP AT A LATER DATE BECAUSE I HAVE NO TIME THIS TIME AROUND. PLUS WITH THE SPRAY PAINT I'LL BE ABLE TO WATCH THE CRACKS TO SEE IF THEY ARE GETTING BIGGER.
THE POWER STEERING (THE BIG SPRINGS) CAME FROM THE TD-18 KNOWN AS "EGGO" WHICH WILL MAKE THIS CAT A LOT EASIER TO DRIVE.
ALL EXTRA PARTS ARE READY TO HEAD TO THE IH INVENTORY SHED INCLUDING THE BROKEN PARTS WHICH I SPRAY PAINTED.
ONCE AGAIN "BLAINE" IS ON A CHAIN GETTING DRAGGED OUT OF THE SHOP AT 11pm AT NIGHT.
THE DUAL STACK MOTOR LOOKS SO GOOD.
AT MIDNIGHT THE MOTOR IS BACK IN AND WE PUT THE CAT BACK IN THE SHOP. THE BATTERY IN THE CAMERA DIED SO THIS WAS THE LAST PICTURE OF THE NIGHT.
JANUARY 22 2013
"BLAINE" INSIDE THE SHOP WAITING FOR ME TO WORK ON HIM TODAY.
JAN 24 2013
I HAD A REALXING DAY WORKING ON "BLAINE", I SHORTENED UP THE COOLANT TUBE ON THE ENGINE SO THE RAD HOSES FIT NICE.
MOUNTED THE BLOCK HEATER CORRECTLY.
WHEN I REMOVED THE ENGINE FOR THE TD-18 KNOWN AS "BLAINE" I FOUND AN ONE END WRENCH. THE NAME "SWAIN AL" WAS WRITTEN ON IT SO I SENT IT BACK TO THE OWNER IN BLAINE LAKE SASKATCHEWAN INCASE THE WRENCH IS PART OF A MATCHED SET.
