SLEIGH TRAILER

SINCE THE KING OF OBSOLETE HAS UNIQUE SLEIGHS THAT MUST BE MOVED AROUND FOR CAT TRAIN ADVENTURES IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS. I DECIDED TO BUILD THE ULTIMATE SLEIGH HAULING TRAILER OUT OF RECYCLED STEEL. I HAVE BEEN PRICING OUT TRAILERS FOR ABOUT $20,000.00 CDN AND THEY WERE NOT WHAT I NEEDED, PLUS I WOULD HAVE TO GET A REAL JOB TO MAKE THE PAYMENTS ON A TRAILER OF THAT PRICE. SO I DECIDED TO USE WHAT I HAD AROUND THE "KINGDOM" TO BUILD THE SLEIGH TRAILER. SO ENJOY THE PICTURES AND SEE HOW TO BUILD A TRAILER THAT CAN HANDLE THE ROADS IN THE GREAT WHITE NORTH. THANSK

HERE IS THE TRAILER IN 2004 WITH A SHED ON THE DECK. THOSE ARE TEMPORARY WHEEL THAT WERE JUST TACK WELDED IN TO PLACE. THE SLEIGH TRAILER WAS A SLEIGH WHEN I GOT IT IN 1994. YOU CAN READ MORE ON THE TRAILER AS A SLEIGH IN THE CAT TRAIN NEWSLETTER.

I USED THE RED CRANE CAT TO WRECK MY BLACK END DUMP THAT I NOW LONGER NEED SINCE I HAVE BEEN PUT OUT OF THE SCRAP METAL RECYCLING BUSINESS. THE BOX OF THE TRAILER WILL MAKE A NICE SHED.

THE RED CAT WORKED EXCELLENTLY FOR REMOVING THE SUSPENSION FROM THE BLACK END DUMP TRAILER.

SETTING THE SUSPENSION ON THE SLEIGH TRAILER, THE RED CAT IS VERY HANDY FOR THESE KIND OF LIFTS.

THE KING HIMSELF WELDING THE SUSPENSION IN TO PLACE, THAT WAY I KNOW THE WELDS WILL HOLD ON THESE SO CALLED ROADS OF THE GREAT WHITE NORTH.

ONCE THE SUSPENSION WAS WELDED ON, THE SLEIGH TRAILER WAS FLIPPED OVER FOR THE BEAVER TAIL TO BE CREATED.

THE START OF THE BEAVER TAIL, OF COURSE I USED RECYCLED I BEAM.

OK, I THINK THE STUPID LEVEL IS LYING TO ME. LOL

MORE RECYCLED STEEL TO BUILD THE BEAVER TAIL. SURE WOULD NOT WANT TO BUY THIS STEEL BRAND NEW, I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A GOVERNMENT JOB FOR SURE.

THE KING OF OBSOLETE IN DEEP THOUGHT. ALL THAT THINKING MAKES MY OLD BRAIN HURT. LOL

HERE IS THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BEAVER TAIL, STITCH WELDED TOGETHER. NICE DEEP TROUGH FOR THE SLEIGH SKI TO SLIDE IN TO. THE TRACK PADS ARE FOR TRACTION FOR THE CATS TO WALK UP THE TRAILER.

ONE OF THE TRICKS OF THE GREAT WHITE NORTH IS TO SINK THE MARKER LIGHT IN TO THE SIDE FRAME BECAUSE THE TRAILER WILL BE PUSHED AROUND WITH A CAT. THIS WAY THE MARKER LIGHT WON'T BE SMASHED OUT.

HERE WE GO WITH THE BEAVER TAIL JUST ABOUT DONE. WE HAVE LIGHTS AND A CHANNEL FOR THE SLEIGH HITCH TO SLIDE IN. ALSO A HITCH FOR THE LINN TRACTOR TRAILER TO BE PULLED BEHIND THE SLEIGH TRAILER.

ONE OF THE TRICKS OF THE GREAT WHITE NORTH IS A BRACE UNDER THE HITCH SO THE ROUGH ROADS DON'T OVAL OUT THE BOLT HOLES AND MAKE THE LOOSE.

FISH PLATING IN THE FRONT OF THE TRAILER TO MAKE IT SOLID AND SAFE.

THE FRONT OF THE ALMOST FINISHED TRAILER. LOTS OF WELDING HAS BEEN DONE.

TEST DRIVE WITH THE FORD TO SEE HOW THE TRAILER PULLED.

WHAT A VERY UNIQUE TRAILER DESIGN, SO IT MUST BE THE "KING OF OBSOLETE'S".

UPDATE APRIL 2006

SINCE SOUTHERN BELLE GOT SICK IN LATE AUGUST OF 2005, THE SLEIGH TRAILER WAS PUT ON HOLD. IT SAT IN THE "KINGDOM" ON IT SIDE FOR OVER A MONTH AS WE ATTENDED TO HER MEDICAL CONDITION. THE NEW PARTS AND THE LAST GALLON OF PAINT SAT IN THE SHOP ALL WINTER WAITING FOR WARM WEATHER TO FINISH THE TRAILER. WELL THE WARM WEATHER CAME AND SOUTHERN BELLE IS DOING BETTER NOW SO THE SLEIGH TRAILER MUST BE FINISHED SO I CAN USE IT.

THE BACK OF SLEIGH TRAILER WAS PAINTED BLACK SO THE LIGHTS WILL SHOW UP. (NOTE THE REMOVABLE LIGHTS FOR LOADING AND UNLOADING) THE LAST GALLON OF PAINT WILL FINISH UP THE TRAILER NICELY.

THE SLEIGH TRAILER WITH THE DECK BOARDS ON, NOT BAD FOR RECYCLED LUMBER.

WE HANG OLD MUD FLAPS DOWN TO PROTECT THE AIR LINES AND BRAKES. THE SO CALL NORTHERN ROADS ARE EXTREMELY HARD ON THEM.

THE FINISHED TRAILER, NOT BAD FOR RECYCLED SCRAP METAL.

THE LIGHTS GET HIDDEN AWAY FOR LOADING SO THEY DON'T GET SMASHED.

HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE CONSTRUCTION OF THIS TRAILER. LOTS OF WORK AND IT WAS WELL WORTH IT.

THANSK
